This has become our go-to supper spot, primarily due to its 24/7 operation and consistently decent food offerings throughout the entire coffeeshop.
After a considerable hiatus, I returned to find the place refurbished, with the stalls repositioned behind the coffee counter.
As is often the case with coffeeshop renovations, prices have seen an increase. Nevertheless, at $8.50, their set comprising rice, egg, and two proteins still falls within the realm of reasonable pricing.
Opting for the single set with stingray and squid to share, we supplemented our order with additional dishes from neighboring stalls. After a 15-minute wait, signaled by the beeper, we swiftly collected our selections.
The standout feature here is undoubtedly the Sambal Chilli. One can't help but wonder if they're giving the chilli away for free, given its generous application that allows each mouthful to be glazed with flavorful heat. The chilli leans towards the savory side, avoiding an overwhelming spiciness. Truly shiok!
Moving on to the squid, it was impeccably cooked, striking the right balance in texture—a critical factor for a dish that can easily become too chewy if under or overcooked.
Unfortunately, the stingray was the lone disappointment of the visit. The meat exhibited a slightly dry quality, possibly attributable to the value set having a higher proportion of soft bones. Caution is advised when extracting the meat.
Overall Verdict: The star of the show is undoubtedly the SAMBAL CHILLI! The abundance of this delectable condiment sets the place apart, as opposed to other establishments where stinginess prevails. Here, the chilli feels like it's on the house, making the dining experience all the more enjoyable.
